Lakers Reveal 2018-19 Hockey Schedule

SAULT STE. MARIE, Mich.— Lake Superior State Hockey and the Western Collegiate Hockey Association announced the 2018-19 composite schedule Thursday which features a total 37 games with six non-conference tilts, three exhibition contests and the standard 28 WCHA matchups. A total of 16 games will be played inside Taffy Abel Arena this season.

The Lakers will kick off the season with a non-conference series on the road at Merrimack, Oct. 6-7. The following weekend (Oct.12-13), LSSU will host Nipissing University in and exhibition series.

League action will begin Oct.26-27 for the Lake State as they travel to Alabama Huntsville for two-game set with the Chargers. 

On Nov.2-3, Lake Superior will celebrate its annual Great Lakes State Weekend Homecoming weekend as it welcomes Michigan inside Taffy Abel for a non-conference series, rekindling an old CCHA rivalry. 

Following the series with the Wolverines, the Lakers will play five-straight WCHA weekend matchups with four games against Alaska-Fairbanks and two-game sets with Bowling Green, Northern Michigan and Minnesota State.

On Dec.16, LSSU is slated to take on the USA Hockey U18 National Development Team in an exhibition at the USA Hockey Arena in Plymouth, Mich.

The 2018 portion of the schedule will wrap up on Dec. 28-29 with 54th annual Great Lakes Invitational at Little Caesars Arena. The Laker open against Michigan State while Michigan and Michigan Tech meet in the other semifinal.
