HUNTSVILLE, Ala. - Lake Superior State completed the sweep against Alabama-Huntsville during the season opening series by beating UAH 2-1 Sunday. LSSU is 2-0-0 overall.
Mac Roy scored the first goal of the game at 12:53 of the first period for the Chargers. Junior forward Nick McParland (2-0--2) tallied LSSU's first goal at 18:41 of the second period. McParland's goal was assisted by freshman forward Chris Ciotti (1-3--4) and junior forward Ben Power (0-2--2).
The McParland, Ciotti, and Power line proved to be the go-to line. The Lakers took at 2-1 lead at 17:49 of the third period with McParland's second goal of the night, LSSU's game-winning goal. Assists on McParland's goal went to Ciotti and Power.
The Lakers totaled 35 shots on goal while the Chargers were held to only 21 shots. Sophomore goalie Kevin Kapalka (2-0-0) stopped 20 shots for the win. John Griggs made 33 saves for Alabama-Huntsville.
UAH was 0-for-0 on the power-play, and the Lakers were 0-for-4.
The Lakers' next official game is at home on Oct. 14 against Michigan State. They play the Blue/Gold innersquad scrimmage on Oct. 8 at 7:05 p.m. at Taffy Abel Arena. Following two 20-minute periods, there will be a skate with the Lakers. Admission is free.
