SAULT STE. MARIE, Mich.- Lake Superior State fell to 0-8-0 on the season after a 3-0 loss to Northern Michigan (4-0-0) on Saturday night. The loss capped Great Lake State Weekend and homecoming for LSSU.
Freshman Gordon Defiel (0-7-0) got the start for the Lakers, facing off against Mathias Dahlstrom (4-0-0) once again. The sophomore Dahlstrom was once again up for the occasion against the Lakers, shutting them out on 23 shots on net. Defiel turned away 33 of 36 shots by the Wildcats.
After a scoreless first, the Wildcats got a goal by Shane Sooth to open up the scoring, just 40 seconds into the middle frame. The Lakers went to the locker rooms trailing by just the lone goal following the second period.
A quick strike (1:36) in the third period put the Wildcats up 2-0 as John Seimer was able to bury the feed from Darren Nowick. With just 6:54 remaining in the game, Northern Michigan received their third goal, this one tipped in by Joseph Manno, as Gerard Hanson threw it on net to get the assist.
The Lakers will travel to the University Alaska Anchorage next weekend before enjoying their first bye week of the season.
