PITTSBURGH, Pa.- Lake Superior State suffered its second consecutive road loss of the season, falling 3-0 Saturday at Robert Morris. The Lakers (0-4-0, 0-2-0 WCHA) were held scoreless by goaltender Dalton Izyck of the Colonials (2-0-0, 0-0-0 AHA).
The teams skated through the first period without exchanging any goals
Gordon Defiel was once again named LSSU's starting goaltender, squaring off against Izyck. Robert Morris capitalized late in the second period and notched the goal that put the Colonials ahead for the remainder of the game. Scott Jacklin's second goal of the series was scored with just 1:14 remaining in the second period.
An early goal in the third period by Cody Wydo (5:33) put the Colonials up by two before David Friedmann gave Robert Morris its third goal on a power play with 5:08 remaining in the game.
Defiel turned away 37 shots in the effort and kept the Lakers in the game throughout much of the competition.
The Lakers went 0-4 on the power play, while Robert Morris converted 2-of-7 chances.
The Lakers play next weekend at Notre Dame against former Laker head coach Jeff Jackson for a two game non-conference tilt. Jackson's 1994 Laker team will be inducted into the LSSU Sports Hall of Fame Oct. 25.
