Lakers fall on the road to the Colonials

PITTSBURGH - Lake Superior State fell 3-1 at Robert Morris Friday during its first road game of the 2014-15 season.

The Colonials (1-0-0) jumped out to a 2-0 lead over the Lakers (0-3-0, 0-2-0 WCHA) during the first period on a pair of even strength goals. Senior captain Andrew Dommett scored the Lakers' lone goal on a power play with 1:54 left in the first period to end the frame with LSSU trailing, 2-1.

Ian Miller (1-1--2) picked up the primary assist and freshman James Roll (0-1--1) notched his first point as a Laker on the second assist.

RMU's Ben Robillard made it 3-1 with an even-strength goal at 15:09 of the third period.

Freshman goaltender Gordon Defiel (0-3-0) was once again named the starter for the Lakers and blocked 36 shots in the loss. Defiel was pulled in favor of an extra attacker with just under three minutes to play in the game but the Lakers were unable to tally the tying goal.

Terry Shafer had 29 saves for RMU.

The Lakers and Colonials will square off in the rubber match on Saturday night starting at 7:05 p.m.
