Laker Tennis Drops Conference Match at Grand Valley

GRANDVILLE, Mich.-- The Lake Superior State men's tennis team dropped its Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference matchup at Grand Valley Saturday evening, 8-1.

With the loss, LSSU slips to 5-5 overall and 0-2 in league competition. GVSU improves to 10-4, 2-0.

Lake State battled during the doubles portion but wasn't enough to stop Grand Valley as they took all three points.

No. 1 doubles pairing Ieuan Lister and Diego Penz lost 8-1, Jake Prime and Luis Valderrama at No. 2 doubles lost 8-6, and No. 3 doubles, Joe Gilman and Seth Pinnoo lost 8-2.

The Lakers couldn't shift the momentum in singles play with GVSU taking 4-of-5 matches.

Gilman lost to Sebastien Lescoulie at No. 1 singles 6-1, 6-2. Prime at No. 2 singles lost 6-2, 6-0 to Jack Geissler. At No. 3 singles Lister lost to Alex Steenover 6-0, 6-1.  At the No. 4 spot Penz lost to Nick Urban 6-3,6-4.

In No. 5 singles, Valderrama won a tough three-set match against DJ Colantone 3-6,6-3,7-6(9), and finishing the singles competition at No. 6 singles was Pinnoo, his opponent, Eric Zuremer won 6-3, 6-1.

Tomorrow, Lake State plays Ferris State University in another GLIAC match starting at 10 a.m.  as they look for their first conference win this season.

The Lakers return home April 7 as they host Davenport in a conference tilt inside the Arbuckle Student Activities Center.
