KENOSHA, Wisc. --The Lake Superior State men's and women's cross country teams participated in their first meet of the 2018 season Saturday at the 38th annual Vic Godfrey Open hosted by Wisconsin-Parkside.
The Lake State men's team captured a 10th place finish in the 8,000-meter race. Seniors Garrett Smith (53rd) and Jack Miles (77th) had the top two finishes for the Lakers, with times of 27:13.6 and 27:51.9, respectively. Sophomore Peter Shambaugh's finish time of 28:33.1 placed him 96th overall.
In the women's 5,000-meter race, LSSU finished 11th. Junior Rebecca Lathrop was the top finisher for Lake State, placing 74th and recording a time of 20:40.6.
Sophomore Alexis Passino crossed the finish line with a time of 21:34.9, which placed her 93rd. Senior Lydia Heimonen placed 95th after recording a time of 21:43.0.
Both men's and women's teams return to action on Sept. 22 at the Bay College Invitational in Escanaba, Mich.
