Laker Track and Field Adds Traver for 2019-20

Signing Day

SAULT STE. MARIE, Mich. -- Lake Superior State track and field head coach Rob Gallinger has announced that one student-athlete has signed a national letter of intent to attend Lake State and compete on the track and field team.

Riley Traver, from Hartford, Michigan, will attend Lake Superior State in Fall 2019, where he'll major in mechanical engineering technology. He currently competes for Hartford High School Track in the Michigan High School Athletic Association's Southwest 10 Conference. Traver has received multiple high school track honors, including Hartford High School Boys Track MVP in both 2017 and 2018. In 2018 he was named second team all-region in the high jump, first team all-conference in the high jump, first team all-conference in the 4x100-meter relay and second team all-conference in the 100-meter dash. In 2016, he was named third team all-conference in the high jump. His current personal records are 6 feet, one inch for the high jump and 11.57 seconds for the 100-meter dash.

"Riley is going to be a great asset to our program. He made a great impression during his visit and we knew that he was someone we wanted on our team. I am excited to see what Riley brings to our program," said Gallinger.

Traver also played on the men's soccer team from 2015-2017. They won a conference championship all three years and were district champions in 2015 and 2017. Other extra-curricular activities that he has been involved in throughout high school include marching band, robotics and National Honor Society. Traver's hobbies include rock hunting, downhill skiing, fishing, indoor soccer and ice hockey.

"We are so thrilled as a coaching staff to have a very talented signee during the early signing period. Riley Traver is a multi-functional athlete who will help close the gaps in our sprints program. He is not only extremely hard working and focused, but academically he is going to do big things as well," said Dani Filipek, assistant coach. "I think he is a wonderful addition to the growing Lake Superior State family, and we are so honored to have him and his family joining the LSSU track and field family."

All signings are contingent upon admission to Lake Superior State and compliance with NCAA rules, including certification by the NCAA Eligibility Center.
