Lakers fall 74-63 against Illinois-Springfield in Hillsdale

HILLSDALE, Mich.- Lake Superior State women's basketball fell 74-63 against Great Lakes Valley Conference members Illinois-Springfield on Friday night in Hillsdale, Michigan during early season non-conference play.

Representing the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference in the annual GLIAC/GLVC Crossover event, the Lakers (0-1) jumped out to a 20-11 lead after the first quarter and took a 28-26 lead into the locker room at halftime. The Prairie Stars (1-0) outscored the Lakers 23-21 in the third quarter and 25-14 during the final 10 minutes to claim the victory.

Freshman guard Claire Radtke led the Lakers with 14 points on four-of-11 shooting from the floor and three-for-eight from behind the three-point line. Junior Tamara Novic chipped in a double-double with 11 points and 10 rebounds (five offensive) in 18 minutes of reserve action.

Senior guard Mackenzie Edwards finished with 10 points, five rebounds and four assists.

UIS was led by Syerra Cunningham's game-high 18 points and 19 rebounds. Caroline Kelty (13 points), Shelbi Patterson (10 points) and Airiana Smith (10 points) rounded out the Prairie Stars to reach double figures in scoring.

The Lakers cap the weekend with a 4:00 p.m. start time against McKendree on Saturday.
