SAULT STE. MARIE, Mich.-- Head Coach Dave Schmidlin and the Lake Superior State volleyball program have announced the 2018 season schedule which features nine matches inside the Bud Cooper Gymnasium.
This year's calendar kicks off with two preseason tournaments beginning with the Ferris State Invitational (Aug.23-25) where the Lakers will play four non-conference matches against Upper Iowa, Rollins, Mercyhurst and Clarion.
The following weekend (Aug.31-Sept.1) Lake State will travel west for the Northern Michigan Invite where they will take on Minnesota-Crookston, St. Cloud State, Minnesota-Duluth and Bemidji State in non-league action.
The Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference season commences Friday, Sept.7 as LSSU hosts NMU at 6:30 p.m. and is followed up by a matchup with Michigan Tech on Saturday at 2 p.m.
Following their opening two-game home stand, the Lakers will hit the road for five-straight with matchups against Saginaw Valley (Sept.11), Wayne State (Sept.14), Ashland (Sept. 15), Ferris State (Sept.21) and Northwood (Sept.22).
Laker Superior will then return home for four-straight taking on Purdue Northwest (Sept.28), GLIAC newcomer Wisconsin-Parkside (Sept.29), Davenport (Oct.5) and Grand Valley
Lake State will then break from conference competition as they take part in the Midwest Regional Crossover Tournament held in Indianapolis, Ind. (Oct. 12-13). The tournament will include three matches versus regional opponents of the Greater Midwest Athletic Conference (GMAC) and the Great Lakes Valley Conference (GLVC) over a two-day period. The schedule will be released a week prior to the event.
The Lakers resume GLIAC action Oct.19 with a road tilt against MTU followed by a matchup with NMU on Oct.20. The regular season will wrap up at home with three matches against NU (Oct.26), FSU (Oct.27) and SVSU (Nov.3).
The first round of the GLIAC Tournament begins Nov.11 with the semifinals and finals slated for Nov.10-11.
