MARQUETTE - Teryn Williams was 4-for-7 at the plate and combined
with Alyssa Avila for seven RBIs to lead the Lake Superior State
softball team to a 14-4 victory over Marian and a 9-1 win against
Finlandia Saturday during the season-opening Superior Dome
Tournament hosted by Finlandia.
LSSU's Riley Durbano pitched a three-hitter to win the first
game against Marian (Wis.). She totaled seven strikeouts and two
walks. Taylor Steinhelper and Williams had three hits each
including doubles as the Lakers pounded out 15 hits for the game.
Emily Estep also had a double, and Williams added a two-run home
run in the third inning.
Allison Traczyk and Chantel Olshanski were 2-for-3, and Avila
hit a two-run homer against Finlandia. Avila's home run capped a
six-run rally for the Lakers as they pulled away from a 1-0 lead.
They added three runs in the fifth to end the game by mercy rule.
LSSU out-hit the Lions, 7-2.
Alyssa Boucher was the winning pitcher during Game 2, allowing
one run on one hit, one walk and one strikeout. Mandy Rosol allowed
one hit and no runs during the final two innings. She struck out
two and walked two.
