MARQUETTE -- Lake Superior State's softball team is 3-1 after
finishing 1-1 during Day 2 of competition at the season-opening
Superior Dome Tournament hosted by Finlandia. Sunday afternoon, the
Lakers lost 5-4 to Edgewood and beat Concordia12-6.
Edgewood (Madison, Wis.) held a 9-8 edge in hits and won the
game in the seventh inning with a one-out two-run homer.
Allison Traczyk hit a solo home run and a triple to lead the
Lakers. Teryn Williams also tripled, and Lindsey Pajot and Brandi
Anderson doubled. Williams and Amanda Maxon were 2-for-4 at the
plate.
Riley Durbano (1-1) went the distance in taking the pitching
loss. She totaled three strikeouts and one walk. All five runs were
earned.
LSSU, which out-slugged Concordia (Mequon, Wis.) 19-15, jumped
to a 4-1 lead in the bottom of the second inning and added to its
lead during every turn at-bat. Alyssa Avila was 4-for-4, and
Anderson, Maxon and Pajot added three hits each.
Maxon homered twice and hit a double while totaling three RBIs.
Anderson and Pajot had two doubles each, and Williams, Traczyk and
Avila also doubled. Avila also contributed three RBIs.
Anderson (1-0) picked up the pitching win, allowing six earned
runs on 11 hits, one strikeout and no walks during 4 2/3 innings.
Alyssa Boucher pitched 2 1/3 shutout innings with one strikeout.
She gave up four hits.
Avila batted .545 (5-of-11) for the weekend. Maxon, Traczyk,
Pajot and Anderson all batted .500 during the four-game indoor
stint.
LSSU resumes its spring break schedule March 7 at
Illinois-Springfield.
