Lake Superior State University Sports Medicine

Mission Statement

Lake Superior State University Intercollegiate Athletics is committed to providing all student-athletes a level of care that ensures their safe participation, aids in their individual and team's success and preserves their ability to enjoy a lifetime of physical activity. The professional medical staff is also dedicated to educating student-athletes and assisting them in developing their ability to make informed decisions regarding their personal health.

Steve McLeod, AT

McLeod enters his first year as LSSU's Director of Athletic Training services in Jan. 2024.

McLeod is a Lake Superior State alumni, having graduated from LSSU with a bachelor's degree in athletic training in 2011 before going on to earn his master's in physical education from Central Michigan in 2013 where he served as a graduate assistant within their athletic training education program. 

He is joined in the Soo by his wife and fellow LSSU alum, Nicole, and his two children, Brandt and Owen.

Dr. Tetzaff

Timothy Tetzlaff, D.O.

Dr. Tetzlaff has cared for patients in the Eastern Upper Peninsula for over 2 decades. He considers it as a privilege to be involved in the lives of his patients and care for them. Dr. Tetzlaff went to Trent University in Peterborough, ONT, Canada for his undergraduate studies. Then he attended Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine for his medical school. His internship and residency were at Martin Place Hospital in Madison Heights, MI. He is a board certified family physician with full hospital admitting privileges at War Memorial Hospital in Sault Ste. Marie, MI.

 

Dr Mackie

Robert Mackie, M.D.

For over 20 years, Dr. Robert Mackie has treated many patients while also motivating countless people to be proactive in their own healthy living practices. Dr. Mackie attended Albion College for his undergraduate studies. He then attended Wayne State University for medical school. His internship and residency were completed at Saginaw Cooperative Hospitals. He is a board certified family physician with full hospital admitting privileges at War Memorial Hospital in Sault Ste. Marie, MI.

 

Dr. Pete

Peter Scornaiencki, D.C., CCSP

Dr. Peter Scornaiencki (Dr. Pete) graduated Magna Cum Laude from Northwestern College of Chiropractic in March 2000. After working at two practices in Minnesota, he started Bordertown Chiropractic in the Sault, with his wife Dr. Rachael McCoy, in July 2001. He furthered his education, receiving his Chiropractic Sports Physician Certification in 2011. He is actively involved in the community, as an active member of the Sault Rotary Club and trustee for Hospice of the EUP. He enjoys running, bicycling, golf and hockey. He lives in Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan with his wife Rachael and children; Caitlyn and Tyler.

Dr. Racheal

Rachael McCoy, D.C., CCSP

Dr. McCoy graduated from Northwestern College of Chiropractic in July 2001. She started Bordertown Chiropractic, with her husband Dr. Pete, in Sault Ste. Marie after finishing her internship in Houghton Lake Michigan. Dr. McCoy then attended Options for Animals and became certified by the AVCA as an Animal Chiropractor in 2003. She returned to the classroom again in 2011 to become certified as a Sports Chiropractor. Along with her many academic achievements she is very involved in the community. She is currently a board member for the Sault Ste. Marie EDC.  She enjoys competing in triathlons, riding her horse and spending time with her two children, Caitlyn and Tyler.

Dr. Jagannathan

Dr. Jay Jagannathan M.D., FAANS

Dr. Jagannathan is a board certified neurosurgeon specializing in cranial and spinal surgery. He has a special interest in minimally invasive techniques, which often result in less post-operative discomfort, and a quicker recovery for patients.Following his neurosurgical training, Dr. Jagannathan built busy practices at Wayne State University and Northern Michigan. His goal is to provide excellent neurosurgical service to the community, combining compassionate care, advanced neurosurgical techniques and easy accessibility for patients. With offices in Troy, Garden City, West Branch and Sault Ste. Marie, Dr. Jagannathan is always available for easy consultation with any of his patients.
