Hockey Falls on the Road to Bemidji State

BEMIDJI, Minn. - The Lake Superior State men's hockey team fell by a final score of 7-1 against Bemidji State on Friday, Nov. 8 at the Sanford Center. With the Western Collegiate Hockey Association (WCHA) loss, the Lakers record drops to 4-7-0 overall and 2-1-0-0 in conference play.

At 6:36 of the first period, the Bemidji State Beavers would notch their first goal of the game. Beavers captain Adam Brady would capitalize on a pass from Hampus Sjodahl and fire a shot from the slot that would beat Lakers goalie Mareks Mitens. The Beavers would add two more goals before the first twenty minutes of play came to a close.

The Lakers found themselves down by 3-0 after the first period and would allow two more Bemidji goals in the second period to trail by a score of 5-0 following forty minutes of action.

Roman Bengert started the third period in goal for the Lakers, and would allow two goals by the Beavers. Bemidji would score seven straight goals before Max Humitz snapped Bemidji netminder Zach Driscoll's shutout at 11:19 of the third period. Humitz would tally his sixth goal of the season, which ties the team-lead in goals. Hampus Eriksson recorded the lone assist on the play. With the point, Eriksson extended his point streak to six games and leads the Lakers with 10 assists and 12 points.

The Lakers were outshot by the Beavers by a margin of 41-27 in the game. The Lakers goaltending duo of Mitens and Bengert ended the game with 34 saves between them. Mitens stopped 24 shots through the first two periods of play while Bengert made 10 saves in the relief effort. Driscoll finished the game with 26 saves.

Special teams were not a factor in the score as both teams only had one power play opportunity in the contest and neither capitalized on the man advantage.

The Lakers will look to even the weekend series tomorrow night against the Beavers. The game is set for a 7:07 p.m. EST puck drop at the Sanford Center in Bemidji, Minn.
