SAULT STE. MARIE, Mich. – Lake Superior State hockey student-athlete Hampus Eriksson has been named the Madigan/Pingatore Insurance Athlete of the Week, as announced by the Lake Superior State athletic department on Monday, Dec. 2.
Eriksson, a junior forward from Forsbacka, Sweden, led the Lakers to a 2-2 tie against the Bemidji State Beavers on Saturday, Nov. 30 as he scored the Lakers first goal of the game with 10:32 left in the third period. The game, which was a Western Collegiate Hockey Association (WCHA) matchup, ended in a 2-2 tie for NCAA purposes but in the second overtime period for WCHA purposes, Eriksson would score to give the Lakers the extra point in league play. Despite the overtime goal not counting towards Eriksson's season stats, the International Business Administration major would still match his previous season high total in goals (3) and points (14). Eriksson ranks second in the WCHA in assists (11) and tied for fifth in points.
It is the first time that Eriksson has been named the Madigan/Pingatore Insurance Athlete of the Week.

Lake State will face off against the No. 1 team in the country this weekend as the Lakers travel to Mankato, Minn. to play the Minnesota State Mavericks in a WCHA weekend series. The series is slated for a 8:07 p.m. EST start on Friday, Dec. 6 and a 7:07 p.m. EST puck drop on Saturday, Dec. 7 at the Mankato Civic Center.
