Matt Stith enters his second season as the head coach of the Lake Superior State University men's and women's cross country and track & field programs in 2025-26. Under his leadership, the Lakers posted improved team results in all areas, as they embraced his philosophy of "getting one day better every day."
Stith brings over 20 years of coaching experience with him to the Soo, developing athletes at the high school and collegiate levels. He's coached athletes that have competed at the NCAA Division I, Division II and Division III levels, as well as NAIA and JUCO programs. Stith has coached multiple collegiate conference champions and one All-American.
He is credited with revitalizing the Elizabeth Forward boys track & field teams, which were able to capture two consecutive sectional titles (2022, 23) the first for the program in 26 years. Stith's teams defied the odds while having the lowest enrollment among all AAA schools in their district. He was also able to secure a pair of sectional titles for the cross country programs after droughts of over 20 years.
Stith holds a BS degree in Mathematics from Purdue University and both a Master's degree and a PhD from Princeton Theological Seminary.
Coach Stith lives in Sault Ste. Marie, MI with his wife, Dr. Antionette (Toni) Stith, Professor of Education at LSSU.
