Biography

Jonathon Allen became Lake Superior State's first track and field national champion by winning the triple jump on May 29,2010, at the NCAA Division II Outdoor Championships held at Johnson C. Smith University.

"Jon had a great meet," LSSU former track and field head coach Steve Eles said. "He was the best jumper of the field today. It is hard to place in words what this means, but Jon's performances is the biggest moment in Laker track and field history and must be one of the highest points in Laker Athletics."

Allen shattered his previous season best of 15.46 meters by jumping 16.27 meters (53-4 1/2 ft.) on his third attempt. He also placed 10th in the triple jump at the USA Outdoor National Championships held in DesMoines, Iowa, in June, 2010.

As a junior, Allen won the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference indoor and outdoor triple jump titles, and was named 2010 GLIAC Indoor Field Athlete of the Meet. He set a new GLIAC Indoor Championship record of 15.45m. He tied that mark and placed fourth at the 2010 indoor nationals to earn All-America honors.
