Lakers skate to first scoreless tie in school history

Nov. 15, 2003

SAULT STE. MARIE - Lake Superior State freshman goaltender Jeff Jakaitis totaled 30 saves for his first career shutout as the Laker hockey team skated to the first scoreless tie in school history in Saturday's Central Collegiate Hockey Association game against Bowling Green.

LSSU (4-3-3 overall, 2-3-1 CCHA), which beat the Falcons 4-2 on Friday, picked up three points in the CCHA standings. It was the first time the Lakers accumulated at least three points since they swept Nebraska-Omaha on Nov. 3-4, 2000.

LSSU's last shutout was a 2-0 victory over Bowling Green on Feb. 28, 2003, when Laker goaltender Matt Violin totaled 26 saves.

Jakaitis improved his record to 2-0-1. BGSU goaltender Jordan Sigalet (3-5-3) totaled 36 saves in his second career shutout. Jakaitis made the tougher saves in the third period, while Sigalet came up with big saves in the second period and overtime. The Falcons (3-5-3 overall, 2-4-2 CCHA) killed a penalty during the final four minutes of regulation.

LSSU was 0-for-3 on the power play, while Bowling Green was 0-for-2. Both teams were scoreless with the man advantage for the series.
