Jakaitis is a CCHA Scholar-Athlete of the Year nominee

FARMINGTON HILLS - Lake Superior State sophomore goaltender Jeff Jakaitis is a nominee for the Central Collegiate Hockey Association's Scholar-Athlete of the Year Award.

Jakaitis, who has a 3.456 grade point average while majoring in business, will be recognized at the CCHA Awards Banquet on Wednesday, March 16, at the Fox Theater in Detroit.

Jakaitis is also ranked ninth in the CCHA Perani Cup points standings. He is ranked seventh in the league in goals-against with a 2.77 average and is ranked sixth in save percentage at .919. Against CCHA opponents, he has the league's second-best save percentage of .922.

Other CCHA Scholar-Athlete of the Year candidates include: Jared Sylvestre, Alaska Fairbanks; Jonathan Sigalet, Bowling Green; Joe Van Culin, Ferris State; Marty Guerin, Miami; Jeff Tambellini, Michigan; Michael Eickman, Nebraska-Omaha; Alan Swanson, Northern Michigan; Cory McLean, Notre Dame; Nate Guenin, Ohio State; Paul Szczechura, Western Michigan. Michigan State did not nominate a scholar-athlete.
