SAULT STE. MARIE - The Lake Superior State volleyball team has signed 5-7 setter Liz Holden of Montague and 5-10 outside hitter Brishia Stroven of St. Louis to a National Letter of Intent.
Stroven holds the Michigan High School Athletic Association kills record of 2,720 and finished third out of 10 finalists in Miss Volleyball voting. The two-time Class C all-stater led St. Louis to the state semifinals for the first time since the Sharks won it all in 2001.
Stroven, who hails from the same alma mater as former Laker outside hitter Kristy Kelly, was named the Lansing State Journal's Volleyball Player of the Year after averaging 5.2 kills, 3.8 digs and 0.9 aces per game, and totaling 939 kills and a .350 attack percentage as a senior.
Holden earned Class C All-State Honorable Mention for Montague. She totaled 934 assists, 230 kills and 101 aces for the Wildcats. She had a .198 attack percentage and .920 service percentage.
