Jakaitis signs with Toronto Marlies

TORONTO, Ont. - Former Lake Superior State goaltender Jeff Jakaitis has signed a contract with the Toronto Marlies of the AHL, team general manager Mike Penny announced today.

Jakaitis, a Rochester, Minn., free agent, registered a 16-16-3 record and 2.31 goals-against average while appearing in 35 of 43 games for the Lakers last season. His 16 victories ranked fourth in the Central Collegiate Hockey Association.

Jakaitis left LSSU with a school-record .925 career save percentage and 2.39 goals-against average. He set nine school records, including most career shutouts (nine), and finished seventh in career wins with 40. He was second in career saves with 3,446.

The Marlies open their third season in Toronto when they play host to the Rochester Americans, AHL affiliate of the Buffalo Sabres and Florida Panthers, on Oct. 6 at Ricoh Coliseum.
