UNIVERSITY CENTER, Mich. – Lake Superior State senior Jon
Allen shattered his own indoor Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic
Conference triple jump record with a winning jump of 15.80 meters
Friday during the first day of competition at the GLIAC Indoor
Championships.
Allen's winning performance bettered last year's
record jump of 15.45 meters and met the NCAA automatic qualifying
standard of 15.51 meters. Allen also placed fourth in the long jump
with a distance of 6.83 meters.
Allen and junior Patrick Wright finished one-two in the triple
jump. Wright jumped 13.59 meters.
The LSSU men placed eighth among 10 teams, while the LSSU women
were 11th among 11 teams.
Sophomore Sara Gallagher set a new LSSU women's pentathlon
record of 2,504 points. She placed 10th, while John
Preczewski was eighth in the men's heptathlon with 4,111
points. Preczewski placed fifth in the 60-meter hurdles and high
jump during the mult-event.
Jeremy Braman scored points for the Lakers by placing seventh in
the men's high jump (1.96 meters). The LSSU men's
distance medley relay was sixth in 10:39.24, and the Laker
men's 4x400-meter relay was eighth in 3:27.29.
