ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. - Lake Superior State senior Jon Allen
completed his best jump on his last attempt and finished third
Saturday at the 2011 NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships
hosted by Adams State.
Allen went into the meet seeded first along with Abilene
Christian's Ramon Sparks. They both had qualifying jumps of 15.80
meters. Sparks defended his indoor title with a jump of 16.15
meters (53-0).
Allen opened the competition with a jump of 15.47 meters. He
fouled during his next four attempts. He concluded the event with a
jump of 15.55 meters (51-0 1/4). The 2010 outdoor national champion
will earn All-America status for the third time. He also improved
upon his 2010 indoor finish by one position.
Josh Honeycutt of Emporia State was second with a jump of
15.67 meters.
