NAPERVILLE, Ill. - Lake Superior State lost its opening match at the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference vs. Great Lakes Valley Conference Crossover Tournament, falling 3-1 to Drury on Friday at the Great Lakes Center.

Drury defeated LSSU, 25-6, 25-12, 27-29, 25-18 at the nation's largest collegiate volleyball tournament. Chloe Balanda totaled nine kills to lead LSSU (4-14). Gaby Olsen and Emily Snyder added seven kills each. Snyder, Nikki Stratelak and Katie Fitzpatrick led the Lakers in digs with five each, while Olsen and Balanda both had three block assists.

Drury (9-12) totaled 59 team kills to LSSU's 31 and compiled 10 service aces.

LSSU plays St. Joseph's and Illinois-Springfield on Saturday.
