DE PERE, Wisc. —Competing in the St. Norbert Twilight meet on Thursday, the Lake Superior State men's and women's track & field team took home four first-place finishes its first outdoor competition of the season.
The Laker men finished the day in fourth-place (out of eight teams) with 73 team points. The women capped off the day in sixth with 53.
Sophomores Kye Heimonen and Roger Wilford lead the way for Lake State in the field events each bringing home first-place finishes. Heimonen had the top mark in the javelin throw (43.74m) while Wilford was first in the high jump (1.85m). Wilford also placed fourth in the pole vault (3.98m) and fifth in the javelin (40.75m).
Junior Cole VanOosten took home a pair of third-place finishes in the discus (34.28m) and the hammer throw (37.37m).
Jack Miles had LSSU's best performance of the day on the track clocking a 34:04.99 in the 10000m to top the field. Freshman David Mitter had a strong showing in the 1500m with a 4:15.26 to place second among the 24-man field.
On the women's side, freshman Ashley Mullings placed first in the long jump posting a career-best 5.36m mark. Freshman Riley Collins and senior Sarah Swider tied for the top mark in the high jump each notching a 1.50m mark on the day.
Throwers Sara Ostwald and Moriah Reed each collected fifth-place finishes with Ostwald posting a 32.57m mark in the discus and Reed tossing a 38.22m in the hammer throw. Senior McKenzie Richardson led the women on the track clocking a 40:37.45 in the 10000m which was good for fifth.
