ASHLAND, Ohio. —The Lake Superior State men's and women's track and field squads combined for five top-10 showing at the 2018 Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Outdoor Championships, which were held (May 2-4) at Ashland University.
The Lakers men's team tallied five points on the strength of sophomore Roger Wilford's team-best fourth-place (6,200 point) finish in the decathlon. Wilford won the 1500m leg of the event (4:43.84) and also posted the top mark in the pole vault (4.70m), which set a new LSSU outdoor record.
Additionally, for the men, Kye Heimonen placed 10th in the javelin while Garret Smith also placed 10th on the 1500m clocking a 16:05.98. Teammate.
On the women's side, freshman Ashley Mullings registered a point for Lake State placing eighth in long jump with a 5.45m mark.
Junior Sara Ostwald placed 10th in the discus with a 34.36m meter toss setting a new personal record.
No athletes were able achieve provisional marks for the 2018 NCAA Outdoor Championships thus ending the Lakers 2017-18 season.
