Preview: Laker Hockey Returns Home to Take on the Michigan Tech Huskies

SAULT STE. MARIE, Mich. - The Lake Superior State hockey program (2-12-2, 1-7-1 CCHA) returns to Taffy Abel Arena for their final CCHA series of 2022 when they take on the Michigan Tech Huskies on Friday and Saturday with puck drop for game one scheduled for 7:07 p.m.

Stories to watch:

  • Captain Louis Boudon (Grenoble, France) earned the 100th point of his career with the first of three assists in a 3-2 come-from-behind overtime victory at Bemidji State on Dec. 10.

  • The Lakers came away with a shootout victory in game one before falling 2-0 in the second game of the previous series against the Huskies in Houghton, Mich. on Nov. 11-12. The Lakers picked up their first points in the CCHA standings during this series.

  • Ethan Langenegger (Kamloops, B.C.) had one of the best games between the pipes of his career in the shootout victory over the Huskies on Nov. 11, recording 40 saves and stopping all three Michigan Tech attempts in the shootout to help his team overcome being outshot 42-21.

  • Michigan Tech goaltender Blake Pietila is tied for the lead nationally in shutouts with four, including the Huskies' 2-0 victory over the Lakers on Nov. 12.

  • Ryland Mosley is tied for the national lead in shorthanded goals with three, but Dawson Tritt (Spokane, Wash.) is right behind him with two of his own.

  • The Lakers are coming off of a series split against the Bemidji State Beavers that included coming back from down 2-0 to secure their first official CCHA victory of the season by a final score of 3-2 after Jacob Bengtsson (Stockholm, Sweden) slotted home the game-tying goal after the Lakers pulled the goaltender on a penalty kill with 24 seconds remaining in regulation. Bengtsson would then find Brandon Puricelli (Ellisville, Mo.) for the game-winner in overtime.

  • The Huskies will be looking to get back to game-speed coming off of a bye week, but they earned a series split in a home-and-home series with Northern Michigan the week prior that saw the home team winning each contest.

  • Nine different Lakers have recorded at least five points entering the series against the Huskies.

  • The Lakers' captain Boudon leads the team in scoring with nine points (6G, 7A) after 16 games.

  • Bengtsson is currently tied with Boudon in assists this season with seven to lead the team.
