SAULT STE. MARIE, Mich. - Lake Superior State hockey has announced its full schedule for the 2022-23 season. The Lakers will play 26 conference games and 6 non-conference games, one holiday tournament, and three exhibitions. 

The Lakers will open up the 2022-23 season with an exhibition at Michigan Tech on Saturday, Oct. 1 in Houghton, Mich. The team will turn around to face the Nipissing Lakers on Sunday, Oct. 2 at Taffy Abel Arena in an exhibition game. The Lakers will travel to Plymouth, Mich. on Saturday, Oct. 7 to play the USNTDP U-18 team in their final exhibition of the season.

The Lakers will begin home play in non-conference series against the University of Nebraska-Omaha on Friday, Oct. 14 and Saturday, Oct. 15, followed by Michigan on Friday, Oct. 21 and Saturday, Oct. 22 for Great Lake State Weekend. The close of the month will feature a final non-conference matchup against the Clarkson Golden Knights on Friday, Oct. 28 and Saturday,  Oct. 29. 

Central Collegiate Hockey Association (CCHA) play will begin for the Lakers during the first weekend of November. The Lakers will face Northern Michigan at Taffy Abel Arena on Friday, Nov. 4 and Saturday, Nov. 5. The following weekend, LSSU will travel to Houghton, Mich. to face the Michigan Tech Huskies on Friday, Nov. 11 and Saturday, Nov. 12. To close the month of November, the Lakers will travel to face the St. Thomas Tommies in Mendota Heights, Minn. on Friday, Nov. 25 and Saturday, Nov. 26.

The Lakers open December with a home series against Bowling Green on Friday, Dec. 2 and Saturday, Dec. 3. On Friday, Dec. 9 and Saturday, Dec. 10, the Lakers will face the Bemidji State Beavers at the Sanford Center in Bemidji, Minn. LSSU is back home the following weekend to compete against Michigan Tech on Friday, Dec. 16 and Saturday, Dec. 17 before the holiday break. The Lakers will play in the KwikTrip Holiday Face-Off in Milwaukee, Wisc. on Wednesday, Dec. 28 and Thursday, Dec. 29. The three other teams in the Holiday Face-Off are Wisconsin, UMass, and Clarkson. 

Opening up 2023, the Lakers travel to Bowling Green, Ohio for a series on Friday, Jan. 6 and Saturday, Jan. 7. LSSU will be home Friday, Jan. 13 and Saturday, Jan. 14 to take on the Ferris State Bulldogs before heading back out on the road. The Lakers will play at Minnesota State on Friday, Jan. 20 and Saturday, Jan. 21. Closing out the month of January, the Lakers will host Bemidji State on Friday, Jan. 27 and Saturday, Jan. 28. 

In the final month of CCHA play, the Lakers will travel to Marquette, Mich. for a series of games against the Northern Michigan Wildcats on Friday, Feb. 3 and Saturday, Feb. 4. Lake Superior State will play their final home series against St. Thomas on Friday, Feb. 17 and Saturday, Feb. 18. To finish league play, the Lakers are slated to travel to Big Rapids, Mich. to compete against the Ferris State Bulldogs on Friday, Feb. 24 and Saturday, Feb. 25.

The top four teams following regular-season action will host the opening round of the CCHA Playoffs March 3-5 with the winner of each best-of-three series advancing to the league semifinals. Both semifinals (Saturday, Mar. 11) and final (Saturday, Mar. 18) will be played as a single game at respective campus sites of the highest seeded team. The famed Mason Cup will be presented to the CCHA playoff champions, who will receive an automatic qualification to the 16-team NCAA Tournament.

The NCAA Tournament will announce dates at a later time with regional sites in Bridgeport, Conn., Allentown, Penn., Fargo, N.D., and Manchester, N.H. The 2023 Frozen Four is set to take place at Amalie Center in Tampa, FL.
