Laker Track & Field Set 29 New Personal Bests at SVSU Tune-Up

UNIVERSITY CENTER, Mich. - The Lake Superior State University track and field program competed at the Saginaw Valley State Tune-Up on Friday that featured multiple top-three performances and 29 new personal bests. 

Jayda Williams (Claxton Bay, Trinidad) and Breanyl Baker (St. Catherine, Jamaica) each came away with a strong showing at the meet, combining for three top-three finishes, all of which were personal records, with Williams winning the women's long jump with a distance of 5.44 meters and Baker coming away with a second place finish in the 200-meter dash with a time of 28.86 seconds. The pair also competed in the 60-meter dash with Williams finishing third with a time of 7.99 seconds while Baker's time of 8.24 seconds earned a sixth place finish in the finals.

Sofia Salazar (Valle del Cauca, Columbia), Sydney Kapushinski (Imlay City, Mich.), Olivia Stevens (Grand Haven, Mich.), and Kara Mosher (Sault Ste. Marie, Mich.) would team up for a fourth place finish in the women's 4x400 relay with a time of 4:25.76.

On the men's side, Riley Traver (Hartford, Mich.) put together an impressive effort, winning the high jump after clearing a height of 1.73 meters while also placing fourth in the 200-meter dash with a personal best time of 23.32 seconds.

True freshman Avery Timm (Petoskey, Mich.) also had a solid outing with a fourth place finish in the long jump with a personal best distance of 6.48 meters before teaming up with Michael Sherman (Boyne City, Mich.), Ryan O'Neill (Perry, Mich.), and Aaron Nachazel (East Jordan, Mich.) for a third place finish in the 4x400 relay with a time of 3:43.71. Timm also competed in the 60-meter hurdles where he finished seventh with a time of 9.40 seconds.

Salazar and Mosher came away with the Lakers' only other top-eight placements on the day with personal bests in the 800-meter race (2:34.38) and the long jump (4.43m), respectively, with respective placements of eighth and seventh. 

The Lakers return to action when they return to Saginaw Valley State on Saturday, Feb. 25 for the GLIAC Indoor Track & Field Championships.
