ROCHESTER, Mich. - The Lake Superior State University track and field program competed at the Golden Grizzlies Invitational, hosted by Oakland University, on Friday.

The day was highlighted for the Lakers by another outstanding performance in the javelin throw by Jenna Fleming (Hilton Beach, Ont.), throwing for a distance of 44.33 meters to claim another first place finish in the event, the twelfth of her career. Fleming's showing would prove to be dominant compared to the competition, throwing nearly eight meters farther than second place and defeating nine division I throwers. 

The Lakers would also combine to set 18 new personal records on the day. Ethan Nachazel (East Jordan, Mich.) and Reese Camp (Highland, Mich.) would each set new personal bests in both the 800 and 1500-meter races. Meanwhile, Eric Somsky (Fenton, Mich.) and Skylar Williams (Battle Creek, Mich.) ran for personal records of their own in the 400-meter hurdles and the 3000-meter steeplechase, respectively. True freshman Lindsey Tonello (Cadillac, Mich.) would also run for a personal best on the track in the 400-meter race.

The Lakers would see even more success from their throwers who accounted for 11 of the 18 total personal records that were set during the meet. Freshman Trey Nieman (Morenci, Mich.) came away with three new personal bests in the discus, hammer, and javelin throws while John Kulhanek (Owosso, Mich.) and Jared Christensen (Orleans, Mich.) earned a new personal record in the javelin throw and hammer throw, respectively. Meanwhile, Kennedy Konkle (Oxford, Mich.) and Janelle Docter (Howard City, Mich.) each threw for two personal bests with Alyssa Bonanno (Flat Rock, Mich.) and Paige Johnson (Eckerman, Mich.) throwing for a personal record of their own.
