UNIVERSITY CENTER, Mich. - The Lake Superior State (LSSU) track and field program competed at the SVSU Holiday Open on Friday.
Brayden Heemer (Tawas, Mich.) opened up the day for the Laker men's team with a 7.76 second performance in the 60-meter hurdles prelims. The Featherstone twins, Michael and Collin (Constantine, Mich.), would then compete in the 400-meter dash, finishing with respective times of 55.81 and 55.82.
In the 800-meter race, Shane Izzard (Petoskey, Mich.) and Elijah Sprague (Rudyard, Mich.) made their collegiate debuts with respective times of 2:00.37 and 2:06.08.
Gavin Guggemos recorded a top-ten finish in the men's mile with a time of 4:21.43, and Ethan Meehle (Midland, Mich.) was not far behind with a time of 4:44.12.
Connor Rouse (Genesee, Mich.) led the way for the Lakers in the 3000-meter run with a 9th place finish and a time of 9:36.18 with Brody Crandall not far off with a time of 9:50.68 which was good enough for 15th place overall.Â
Both Featherstones alongside Guggemos and Izzard combined for a time of 3:38.87 in the 4x400m relay.Â
Rayce Rizzo earned a 7th place finish in the pole vault, clearing a height of 4.18m.
Trey Nieman (Morenci, Mich.) led the LSSU throwers with distances of 11.71m and 14.12m in the shot put and hammer throws, respectively.
On the women's side, Kara Mosher (Sault Ste. Marie, Mich.) got things started for the Lakers with a time of 1:07.96 in the 400-meter dash, and Keira Lamming (Sault Ste. Marie, Ont.) had the top Laker time in the 800-meter run at 2:44.00 while Olivia Stevens (Grand Haven, Mich.) was close behind at 2:47.13.
Madison Morgan (Chelsea, Mich.) competed in the women's mile with a time of 5:54.24.
Laker lead distance runner Izzy Yeoman (Genesee, Mich.) came away with a first place finish in the 3000-meter run with a time of 10:39.12.
Lamming cleared a height of 1.46m in the women's high jump.
For the throwers, Ava Donmyer (Sault Ste. Marie, Mich.) led the way with respective distances of 9.93m and 10.11m in the shot put and hammer throws while Paige Johnson also threw for a distance of 8.63m in the shot put.
The Lakers return to action when they compete at the Jack Skoog Invitational at Central Michigan on Jan. 17, 2025.
