Laker Track and Field Competes at 2024 GLIAC Indoor Championships

UNIVERSITY CENTER, Mich. - The Lake Superior State (LSSU) track and field program competed at the GLIAC Indoor Track and Field Championships over the weekend.

Carter Oshelski (Sault Ste. Marie, Mich.) recorded a personal best time of 51.88 in the 400-meter run with Michael Sherman (Boyne City, Mich.) only trailing him by 0.2 seconds. Ethan Nachazel (East Jordan, Mich.) would then have a strong performance in the 5000-meter run with a personal record time of 15:38.67.

Both of the Laker men's relay units were able to score points for their team with the unit of Sherman, Ryan O'Neill (Perry, Mich.), Avery Timm (Petoskey, Mich.), and Oshelski placing sixth in the 4x400 meter relay while the group of Aaron Nachazel (East Jordan, Mich.), Sherman, O'Neill, and Roy Bowman (Jerome, Mich.) placed seventh in the distance medley.

Noah Murray (Macomb, Mich.) and Timm each had strong outings in the jumping events, highlighted by each of them scoring in the triple jump with Murray narrowly missing out on the podium with a fourth place finish overall. 

Ryan Reiniche (Hillsdale, Mich.) rounded out the men's scoring performances with a seventh place finish in the shot put with a distance of 15.07m.

The relay unit of Kara Mosher (Sault Ste. Marie, Mich.), Lindsey Tonello, Haley Howe, and Keira Lamming scored in the women's 4x400-meter relay with a time of 4:18.20.

Lamming would then go on to set a new personal record in the high jump, clearing a height of 1.43m.

In the women's shot put, Ava Donmyer and Paige Johnson were each able to set new personal records with respective distances of 10.10 and 9.84 meters.

Meanwhile, all three Lakers competing in the women's weight throw set new personal records in the event, highlighted by Janelle Docter placing eighth overall with a distance of 13.70m to score for her team. Maddi Gould and Kennedy Konkle also threw for respective distances of 11.01 and 10.70m for personal bests of their own.

The Lakers will now turn their attention to outdoor season with the first meet being the St. Norbet College Easter Twilight on March 28.
