Track and Field Chase Ward

Laker Track and Field Compete at GVSU Big Meet Saturday

ALLENDALE, Mich. – The Lake Superior State (LSSU) track and field program competed at the GVSU Big Meet on Saturday with 22 athletes earning 24 new personal records. Sofia Salazar (Valle del Cauca, Columbia) notched a personal best time of 1:02.43 in the women's 400-meter dash.

Three different Lakers earned a personal record in the women's 800-meter run, led by senior Sydney Kapushinski (Imlay City, Mich.) who paced her team with a time of 2:31.98.

First year runner Izzy Yeoman (Genesee, Mich.) would then lead the way in the mile run with a personal best time of 5:14.98.

Noel Black (Otsego, Minn.) would then pace her team in the 3000-meter race with a personal best time of 10:38.38 to place in the top-20 overall while Sarah McDaniel  (Manistique, Mich.) and Jessa Davis (Birch Run, Mich.) also had the best times of their careers in the event.

Avery Timm (Petoskey, Mich.) got things started on the men's side with a time of 7.44 in the 60-meter dash, but Brayden Heemer (Tawas, Mich.) was not far behind with a time of 7.59 to mark a new personal record. Heemer would then go on to set another personal record with a time of 24.67 in the 200-meter dash. 

In the 400-meter dash, twins Michael and Collin Featherstone (Constantine, Mich.) would each set new personal bests with respective times of 54.57 and 54.76.

Shane Izzard (Petoskey, Mich.), Eli Sprague (Rudyard, Mich.) and Joshua Lindsay each posted career bests in the 800-meter race, led by Izzard's time of 1:59.56.

Four different Lakers would then set personal records in the men's 3000-meter race, led by Connor Rouse (Genesee, Mich.) with a time of 9:18.71, and Rouse would also tack on another personal best in the mile run with a time of 4:43.96.

Noah Murray (Macomb, Mich.) would then place 12th overall in the men's high jump after clearing 1.78m, and both he and Rayce Rizzo placed in the top-20 of the pole vault.

Trey Nieman (Morenci, Mich.) would tack on the final personal record of the event for his team after throwing for a distance of 11.97m in the shot put.
