SAULT STE. MARIE, Mich. - The Lake Superior State (LSSU) women's tennis team secured a spot in the 2025 GLIAC Tournament with a 6-1 victory over the Michigan Tech Huskies on Friday.
The Huskies came out strong, securing the doubles point with wins at the No. 1 and No. 3 spots, despite a 6-1 victory by Tayla Brasier (Bathurst, Australia) and Trinity Ly (Brampton, Ont.) at the No. 2 position. However, the Lakers would bounce back in singles, taking all six one-on-one battles.
Valentina Parodi (Albissola Marina, Italy) would get the Lakers on the board with a 6-1, 6-3 win in the No. 3 singles match, and Ly would follow that up with a 6-4, 6-3 decision at the No. 4 spot. Maddie Whip (Sydney, Australia) would then continue her dominance over GLIAC competition with a 6-3, 6-1 result at the top of the lineup. Brasier followed that up with a match-clinching 4-6, 6-4, 6-3 battle at the No. 2 singles position. Kyna Decruy (Melbourne, Australia) and Martina Oviedo (Cordoba, Argentina) were able to complete the singles sweep with respective wins of 6-3, 3-6 [10-3] and 7-6(8-6), 6-3, ending the final home match in the Arbuckle Student Activities Center with a win.
The Lakers will now turn their attention to the GLIAC Tournament where they will face Saginaw Valley State with the first serve scheduled for 4 p.m. at the Greater Midland Tennis Center.
