SAULT STE. MARIE, Mich. - The Lake Superior State (LSSU) men's tennis team secured a spot in the 2025 GLIAC Tournament with a 6-1 victory over the Michigan Tech Huskies on Friday.
The Lakers came out strong, battling to secure the doubles point with the pairing of Stefan Andrei (Galati, Romania) and Jordi Fraile Raton (Sant Cugat, Spain) earning a 6-3 win at the No. 2 spot before the duo of Maxence Hamon (Montreal, Quebec) and Haitam Aboufirassi (Montreal, Quebec) clinched the early lead with a 7-2 tiebreaker.
Andrei wasted no time extending the lead for LSSU, sprinting to a 6-1, 6-0 victory at the top of the lineup, and Fraile pushed the advantage to 3-0 after a 6-3, 6-1 win at the No. 3 spot. Driss Sedrati (Casablanca, Morocco) would then clinch the match for his team with a 6-3, 6-2 decision in the No. 2 singles match to book a ticket to the GLIAC Tournament.Â
Hamon and Lezan Koyuncu (Cologne, Germany) were able to tack on two more singles wins for the Lakers with respective scores of 6-3, 6-4 and 6-3, 6-2.
The Lakers will now turn their attention to the GLIAC Tournament where they will face Ferris State with the first serve scheduled for 11 a.m. at the Greater Midland Tennis Center.
