Sarah Lamb's ninth goal of the season might have been the biggest.
Her Saturday strike, at 4:09 of overtime, lifted Lake Superior State (10-11-0) to a 3-2 win over Michigan State at Munn Ice Arena in East Lansing, MI. In a game with 103 total shots on goal, Lamb's score sent the Lakers into jubilation.
Asia Kachuk made 52 saves for Lake State, playing an incredible game in the Laker net.
Ava Schuster scored for the Spartans (15-6-1-1) at 11:19 of the first period, putting MSU in the lead after a 2-0 win on Friday night. The Lakers surged in the second period, though, with
Lindsey Tonello scoring her 15th goal of the year and
Chloe Boyko notching her third.
Mackenzie Huber's mid-third period goal tied the game 2-2 for the Spartans. From there, the goaltenders took over. Kachuk excelled for the Lakers, while Jullia Gross-Turkey made 46 stops for the Spartans in the loss. Outshot in the first two periods, Lake State turned around and outshot Michigan State in the third period, pressing to try and win the game. The Lakers also outshot the Spartans in the overtime.
MSU won 2-0 on Friday night on a pair of goals by Avery Hayward, her 10th and 11th goals of the season. Gross-Turkey made 43 saves, while
Laney Pasemko made 49 stops for Lake Superior State.
