Hockey: Former Laker Captain Louis Boudon Named To France's Olympic Ice Hockey Roster

Former Lake Superior State Hockey Captain Louis Boudon has been named to Team France's Men's Ice Hockey roster at the 2026 Winter Olympics. He's one of two former Laker captains representing their nation at the Olympics, along with Lukas Kaelble for the German national team.

Boudon captained the Lakers in the 2021/22 and 2022/23 seasons before turning professional. In 139 NCAA Division I games, he scored 39 goals with 75 assists for 114 points. A Hobey Baker Award nominee in 2022 and 2023, he earned many awards during his Laker career. Boudon was two-time All-CCHA Second Team honoree, LSSU Outstanding Freshman Award winner, AHCA Krampade All-American Scholar, CCHA and WCHA All-Academic honors and WCHA Scholar-Athlete.

Since turning professional, he's played for AHL clubs Laval Rocket and Iowa Wild, as well as ECHL clubs Iowa Heartlanders and Atlanta Gladiators. He played for Nybro Vikings IF in HockeyAllsvenskan and recently signed for Finnish side Jukurit in Liiga.

For his country, Boudon was an assistant captain for France at the U18 and U20 levels. At senior level, he's played 53 games for Les Bleus, scoring five goals with eight assists. He was an assistant captain at the 2025 IIHF World Championships.
Boudon came to Lake Superior State from the NAHL's Northeast Generals and instantly made an impact, playing on the top scoring line with Max Humitz and Pete Veillette during the 2019/20 season. The next year, he scored eight goals and provided 11 assists during the abridged COVID-19 season, contributing top-line production alongside Veillette and Ashton Calder. The instant chemistry between Boudon and his linemates guided the Lakers to the 2021 WCHA Tournament Championship and a spot in the NCAA Division I Men's Ice Hockey Tournament.

In his two years as captain, Boudon stood out as one of the best players and greatest leaders in the CCHA. During his junior campaign, he scored 44 points in 36 games, with 15 goals and 29 assists. The next season, another 10 goals and 14 assists followed for 24 points.

He's built a reputation as a prime time performer. He was 4th in the ECHL in scoring this season for Atlanta, led all Gladiators forwards in points and led the league in game-winning goals with five, prior to signing for Jukurit midseason. He produced numerous thrilling moments during his time as a Laker, and the Frenchman has been a fan favorite at every step of his journey. One of his Laker highlights came against Northern Michigan on January 9th, 2021, when Boudon scored a powerplay game-winning goal in overtime to complete a third period comeback and beat NMU 3-2.

Lake Superior State Head Coach Damon Whitten said, "Louis is the kind of person who earns everything he gets. His determination and work ethic set the standard every day, and as our captain, he led by example in the way he prepared, competed and treated his teammates. Laker Hockey was an important part of his journey, and we were fortunate to be part of his development both as a player and as a leader. Being named to the French Olympic team is a testament not only to his ability on the ice but to his character, leadership and commitment to continual growth. We're incredibly proud of him and excited to see him represent his country on the Olympic stage."

Louis Boudon continues the proud tradition of Laker hockey at the highest levels of the sport, and Lake Superior State University congratulates him on his selection to the French National Team at the 2026 Olympics.

Boudon is a native of Grenoble, France, where his father, Jerome, played for Brûleurs de Loups, winning the Magnus Cup championship in 1991 as winners of the French top division.

The 2026 Olympic Games Men's Ice Hockey Tournament begins February 11th and ends on February 22nd.
