Noel Black and
Gavin Guggemos have been named GLIAC Cross Country Athletes of the Week, the league announced in a media release on Monday afternoon.
Noel Black lives on the podium, earning her second consecutive second-place finish, posting a time of 22:49.5 at the Adrian College Heritage Classic. She also earned second at the season-opening Northwood Invitational on September 12th. The third-year runner continues to excel after an impressive Outdoor Track & Field season that saw her break the Lake Superior State record for the 5,000 Meter Run.
"It was another fine effort by Noel," said Laker Head Coach
Matt Stith. "She executed the plan we had talked about before the race, pretty much to perfection. She ran the second half of the race faster than the first half, which is obviously challenging to do and is reflective of how she loves the work and the competition."
Gavin Guggemos led Lake Superior State and finished sixth at the Adrian College Heritage Classic, finishing at the front of a very large pack with a time of 26:40.3. The third-year runner kept a steady, aggressive pace on Saturday, following up an impressive 20th place finish at the Northwood Invitational to open the season two weeks prior.
"Gavin did a terrific job today of pacing his race well," said Stith. "He's feeling very strong right now and very fit for this point of the season. It was really great for him to be in a good competitive space today and get a nice result. He ran a really solid pace."
The Lakers next compete on October 10th at the Lucian Rosa Invitational, hosted by Wisconsin Parkside. Follow the team all season long on the new Lake Superior State Lakers app, now available on theÂ
