Cameron Ramos first season at Lake Superior State was a historic one, as the Lakers marched to the NCAA Division II Men's Basketball Tournament's Elite Eight. His second campaign, 2025-26, has him embracing his role as Associate Head Coach under Steve Hettinga.

"I'm so grateful to have worked with such a great group of players and Coach Hettinga," Cameron said. "It was a magical season, and I'm thankful that the players and Coach trusted me so deeply right away."

In 2024-25, Ramos joined the Lakers at just 23 years old and quickly established himself as a star young coach in Sault Ste. Marie. He arrived from the University of Tulsa, where he'd been a Graduate Assistant under head coach Eric Konkol. Cameron worked with PJ Haggerty, Cobe Williams, Keaston Willis and several other stars at Tulsa. Haggerty was a consensus second-team All American as a freshman. Ramos' eye for tactical details, analytics, and player development stood out right away at LSSU.

"We have a continuous improvement mindset here at Lake State," said Ramos. "Coach Hettinga puts a ton of emphasis on a winning culture based on those fine details and how we can improve on them every day. That's one of the biggest things that stood out to me right away. That totally aligns with me as a person and as a coach, and it's a real joy to have so many other players and coaches that match that drive."

Coming into the 2025-26 season, Austin Morgan joins Cameron on the Lakers staff. The two have a deep friendship going back to middle school and played college basketball together at Olivet College for a season.

Cameron graduated from the University of Tulsa in 2024 with a Master's degree in Business Administration. He previously worked as an assistant coach at Potterville High School for two seasons. Ramos earned his bachelor's degree in exercise science at Olivet in 2022.
