Laker women fall to UWP

KENOSHA, Wis. - GLIAC v. GLVC Challenge host Wisconsin-Parkside took advantage of Lake Superior State foul trouble to win Saturday's women's basketball game, 79-66.

Kayla Ming was 14-of-14 at the free throw line and led UWP (2-0) with 28 points and five rebounds. Wisconsin-Parkside was 28-of-33 at the line for the game.

LSSU (1-1) trailed 34-26 at halftime and was behind throughout the second half. The Lakers trimmed a 15-point deficit to six points, 55-49, with 7:35 remaining, and closed within four, 66-62, with 2:40 to go. UWP extended its lead to nine points by the 1:15 mark.

Danielle Makins led Lake Superior State with 15 points, while Shalyn Beauchamp totaled 14 points, six rebounds and nine assists before fouling out. Jaclyn Armstrong and Alyssa Vanderwal added 10 points each.

Beauchamp and Armstrong both fouled out during the final two minutes.

LSSU shot 48 percent from the field and made 15-of-23 free throws. Wisconsin-Parkside shot 49 percent from the field and out-rebounded the Lakers, 32-27.

LSSU plays Kentucky Wesleyan at the Ferris State Thanksgiving Tournament at 4 p.m. on Nov. 23.
