HILLSDALE - Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference No. 2 scorer Katie Cezat posted an impressive double double, with 28 points and 13 rebounds, to lead Hillsdale to an 81-72 women's basketball victory over Lake Superior State on Thursday.
Cezat, who averages 20.5 points per game and had a high game of 33 points this season, was 12-of-19 from the field. She was 9-of-12 and scored 19 points in the first half as Hillsdale (12-2 overall, 5-1 GLIAC) shot 59.4 percent from the field and built a 44-35 lead.
LSSU (6-10 overall, 2-6 GLIAC) trailed 57-50 with 12:21 remaing and scored five unanswered points to close within two, 57-55, with 9:40 to go. Hillsdale's Kara McCormick killed the Lakers' momentum by answering with a three-pointer, and the Chargers regained a double-digit lead by the 6:51 mark.
Shalyn Beauchamp and Jaclyn Armstrong scored 18 points each to lead the Lakers, who shot 36.2 percent from the field for the game, including only 32 percent in the second half. Katherine LaPrairie had 13 points and Emily Joseph added 10.
LSSU kept its turnovers down, committing only 15 to Hillsdale's 21, but was out-rebounded, 42-32. Beauchamp totaled a team-high eight rebounds.
The Lakers made 25-of-31 free throws, while Hillsdale was 17-of-30. The Chargers shot 54.5 percent from the field for the game.
LSSU plays at Wayne State at 1 p.m. Saturday.
