FINDLAY, Ohio - Senior guard Shalyn Beauchamp made 15-of-16 free throws and scored a career-high 28 points to lead the Lake Superior State women's basketball team to an 86-73 victory at Findlay on Saturday.
LSSU (7-11 overall, 3-7 Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference) snapped a three-game losing skid with the road win. Findlay dropped to 7-9 overall and 2-6 in the GLIAC.
The Lakers, who trailed throughout most of the first half, trimmed a six-point deficit to one point, 42-41, at intermission.
Amanda Epolito, Beauchamp, Shelle Rochon and Alyssa Vanderwal scored two points each during an 8-0 LSSU run that gave the Lakers a 61-54 lead with 9:51 remaining in the game. They extended the lead to 14 points, 76-62, with a 13-4 run that included nine points by Beauchamp and four by VanderWal.
LSSU's biggest second-half lead was 15 points, 79-64, with 1:47 to go.
VanderWal finished with 16 points and five rebounds, and Jaclyn Armstrong added 15 points and seven rebounds. Beauchamp totaled six rebounds and four steals as the Lakers out-rebounded Findlay, 34-29.
LSSU shot 54.9 percent from the field, including 2-of-10 from three-point range. The Lakers made 28-of-33 free throws.
Findlay shot 41 percent from the field, including 9-of-27 from three-point range. The Oilers were 14-of-15 at the free-throw line. They totaled 20 turnovers, while LSSU had 19.
Lake Superior State travels to Saginaw Valley State on Thursday.
