INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. - Lake Superior State
defeated Wisconsin-Parkside, 3-1, and Kentucky Wesleyan, 3-0, on
Saturday to finish 3-1 at the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic
Conference v. Great Lakes Valley Conference Crossover Volleyball
Tournament held at the Team Indiana complex.
As LSSU finished its final match, the GLIAC continued its
dominance in the tournament, improving to 25-11 against the GLVC.
LSSU (6-13) defeated Wisconsin-Parkside, 25-20, 25-20, 20-25,
25-17. Ali Jones led the Lakers with 14 kills, a .275 attack
percentage and 11 digs. Ashley Purvis and Jessica Ewer added seven
kills each. Purvis also totaled 35 assists and 11 digs. Brittany
Newberry had 23 digs. Abby Shereda contributed two solo blocks.
LSSU swept Kentucky Wesleyan, 25-16, 25-21, 25-23. Holly Orban
totaled a team-high 14, kills, while Brishia Stroven followed
12 and Trisha Dutton had seven. Janelle Balkwill had 34 assists.
Lindsay McLeod led in blocks with one solo and two assists, while
Jeanna Radzinski had three block assists. Newberry led in digs with
16, followed by Stroven with 12 and Orban with 11.
Jones, who did not play in the KWU match, totaled a team-high 49
kills and .250 attack percentage for the weekend. She averaged 3.77
kills per game. She also served for 60 points, averaging 4.62
points per game. Purvis finished with 99 assists, and Balkwill had
59. Newberry totaled 96 digs, averaging 6.0 digs per game.
The Lakers, who competed on the road for three straight weeks,
play host to Northern Michigan at 7 p.m. on Oct. 24.
