SAULT STE. MARIE - The Lake Superior State
volleyball team concluded its season Friday with a four-set loss to
Saginaw Valley State.
The Cardinals (21-6 overall, 11-5 Great Lakes Intercollegiate
Athletic Conference) defeated the Lakers, 25-16, 23-25, 25-19,
25-18.
Jessica Ewer totaled nine kills and Ali Jones added eight to
lead the Lakers (6-18 overall, 2-14 GLIAC). Brittany Newberry
totaled 16 digs, while Janelle Balkwill and Ashley Purvis combined
to total 32 assists.
Jones, Purvis, Trisha Dutton and Brishia Stroven competed in
their final collegiate matches. Dutton contributed four kills and
five digs, while Stroven had one kill and three digs.
Jones totaled 616 kills and 492 digs during her three-year
career, while Stroven compiled 513 kills, 631 digs and 76 service
aces through four seasons.
