Box Score ASHLAND, Ohio - Ashland scored nine unanswered points to
erase a late five-point deficit, then hung on to beat the Lake
Superior State women's basketball team 69-67 Friday at Kates
Gymnasium.
AU (6-1 overall, 2-1 Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic
Conference) trailed throughout most of the game. LSSU's Jill Walton
made a layup for a seven-point Laker lead with 5:43 remaining.
Teammate Ronlea Peterson hit a three-pointer at 3:49 to give the
Lakers a 61-56 advantage.
By the end of Ashland's 9-0 run, the Eagles were up 65-61 with
less than a minute remaining. LSSU was forced to foul down the
stretch, and AU made all four free throws.
Jackie Armstrong led LSSU (6-3 overall, 0-3 GLIAC) with 20
points and eight rebounds. Emily Joseph added 17 points, and
Peterson followed with nine.
Lacy Romine had 19 points and six rebounds, and Betsy Morrison
added 16 points and nine rebounds to lead Ashland. The Eagles
out-rebounded the Lakers, 46-35. They out-scored LSSU on
second-chance points, 11-6, and in points off turnovers, 22-14.
LSSU shot 41.4 percent from the field, including 9-of-20 from
three-point range, and made 10-of-13 free throws. Ashland shot 34.8
percent from the field, including 6-of-20 from behind the arc, and
made 17-of-22 free throws.
The Lakers play at Saginaw Valley State at 1 p.m. Sunday.
