UNIVERSITY CENTER - Lake Superior State concluded an
early-season, seven-match road stretch with a 3-0 loss at Saginaw
Valley State on Tuesday.
The Lakers (0-3 Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference,
1-6 overall) return home to play host to Ashland at 7 p.m. Friday
in their home opener at Cooper Gymnasium.
SVSU (2-1 GLIAC, 10-1 overall) defeated LSSU, 25-20, 25-15,
25-17.
After being shut out in the team blocks column last Saturday at
Michigan Tech, the Lakers showed improvement in that area, totaling
12 team blocks to the Cardinals' 6.5. Sara Hess led LSSU with four
solo blocks and two block assists, and Ashley Purvis added two
solos and one assist. Jeanna Radzinski also had two solos.
Ali Jones led the Lakers in kills with six and service aces with
two. Purvis had 19 assists, and Brittany Newberry totaled 14 digs.
The Cardinals totaled 36 kills to LSSU's 25.
