Box Score SAULT STE. MARIE - Ferris State made its first five
shots to set the tone of Thursday's men's basketball game
against Lake Superior State and stormed to a 20-point lead in 10
minutes. The Bulldogs went on to hold the Lakers to a
season-low 17 field goals and won easily, 86-59.
Ferris State (5-6 overall, 3-3 Great Lakes Intercollegiate
Athletic Conference) shot 63.3 percent from the field in the first
half and built a 48-30 lead. The Bulldogs shot 59.3 percent for the
game as four players scored in double figures.
Tim VanOudheusden scored 14 points to lead Lake Superior State
(7-5 overall, 4-3 GLIAC). Garrett Konuszewski and Ryan Kuhl added
nine points each. The Lakers, who entered the game with a five-game
win streak, shot 34.7 percent from the field and made 20-of-32 free
throws. They were 5-of-16 from three-point range.
The highlight of the game for LSSU was the late-game matchup
between redshirt freshmen Mike Boylan and Jim Boylan, who are twin
brothers playing for the Lakers and Bulldogs, respectively. Jim
Boylan scored against his brother with with 3:37 remaining, and
Mike Boylan answered with a three-point play at 3:24. They combined
to score nine points.
Justin Keenan scored 25 points to lead FSU, which made 7-of-10
free throws and 9-of-15 three-point attempts. The Bulldogs
dominated the boards, 40-23.
Lake Superior State plays host to Grand Valley State at 3 p.m.
Saturday at Bud Cooper Gymnasium.
