SAULT STE. MARIE - Lake Superior State battled back after losing
Sets 1 and 2 of Saturday's Great Lakes Intercollegiate
Athletic Conference volleyball match against Northwood, but the
Timberwolves decided the 2-2 deadlock with a 15-12 win
during the deciding set.
Jessica Ewer, Sara Hess and Nikki Stratelak all reached double
figures in kills as LSSU (1-16 overall, 1-8 GLIAC) tied a
season-high with 59 team kills against NU (6-11 overall,
4-5 GLIAC). Northwood, which won the match, 25-21, 25-21, 25-27,
14-25, 15-12, finished with 55 team kills.
Ewer had 15 kills, which also ties a
single-match season high for the Lakers, and a .283 attack
percentage. She also totaled 21 digs.
Hess and Stratelak added 11 kils each, and setter Janelle
Balkwill had eight. Hess totaled a career high four
block solos and five block assists. Brittany Newberry totaled
23 digs, and Balkwill had 41 assists.
Ashley Carr led Northwood with 14 kills, and Anna Andersen had
seven kills and six block assists.
LSSU plays host to Findlay at 7 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 9.
