Box Score SAULT STE. MARIE - Lake Superior
State dropped its first game of a two-game series against
the University of Michigan, 5-1, at the Taffy Abel Arena Friday.
LSSU is now 4-3-0 overall and 1-2-0 in the Central Collegiate
Hockey Association. Michigan is 3-2-0 and 1-0-0 in the CCHA.
Senior forward Brad Cooper, who has three goals and two assists
for the season, scored the only Laker goal of the night, a
5-on-3 power-play goal that cut U-M's lead to 4-1 at 2:42 of the
third period. Senior forward Zac MacVoy and junior defenseman Tyson
Hobbins assisted on the goal. The Lakers were 1-for-8 on the power
play.
The Lakers held Michigan to 0-for-3 on the power play.
Michigan took a 3-0 lead in the first period on goals by
Scooter Vaughan, Carl Hageland and All-CCHA First-Teamer Louie
Caporusso. Matt Rust made it 4-0 with a second-period goal, and
Luke Glendening finished off the scoring at 16:56 of the third
period. Hageland and Glendening also had assists to finish with two
points each.
LSSU junior goaltender Brian Mahoney-Wilson totaled of 27
saves for the night. Twelve of those saves came in the first
period. Michigan's goaltender, Bryan Hogan, finished
with 24 saves in the game.
The Lakers will play Michigan in the final game of the series
Saturday, 7:05 p.m., at the Taffy Abel Arena.
