TIFFIN, Ohio - The Lake Superior State volleyball team pulled
out a five-set victory at Tiffin on Saturday to go 1-1 during its
first Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference road trip of
the 2009 season.
After falling 25-13, 25-18, 25-14 at Ashland on Friday night,
the Lakers (1-12 overall, 1-4 GLIAC) defeated Tiffin, 22-25, 25-14,
25-18, 17-25, 15-12 during a Saturday afternoon match.
Jessica Ewer totaled 12 kills, 18 digs and three block assists,
and posted a .400 attack percentage to lead the Lakers against the
Dragons. Also reaching double figures in kills were Abby Shereda
with 11 and Nikki Stratelak with 10. Brittany Newberry had 22
digs, and Janelle Balkwill totaled a season-high 49 assists.
LSSU hit a season-high .339 as a team, including .481
during Set 2 and .406 during Set 3. The Lakers' 55 team kills
is their second-best total of the season.
Sara Hess and Ewer led in kills with four each against
Ashland (7-5 overall, 3-1 GLIAC).
Tiffin dropped to 1-12 overall and 0-4 in the GLIAC.
